Transcranial direct current stimulation for fatigue in patients with Sjogren’s syndrome: A randomized, double-blind pilot study

چکیده

BackgroundTranscranial direct-current stimulation (tDCS) has shown promise to decrease fatigue. However, it never been examined in primary Sjogren Syndrome (pSS).ObjectiveTo assess the effect of a tDCS protocol on fatigue patients with pSS.MethodsThis is parallel, double-blind pilot study (NCT04119128). Women aged 18–65 years, pSS, stable pharmacological therapy, complaints for at least three months, and scores >5 Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) were included. We randomized 36 participants receive five consecutive or sham sessions, an intensity 2 mA, 20 min/day.ResultsAfter severity assessed by FSS (primary outcome) demonstrated mean group difference ?0.85 [95% confidence interval (CI) ?1.57, ?0.13; size 0.80] favouring active group. The presented significantly greater reductions as measured EULAR Sjögren’s Patient Reported Index after sessions [mean difference: 1.40; 95%CI -2.33, ?0.48; 1.04]. Although there no between-group differences secondary outcomes sleep, mood anxiety, within-group comparisons evidenced small but significant pain sleep. There cortisol changes. All reported adverse events mild transitory.ConclusiontDCS seems be safe reduce pSS. A differential sleep may underlie its effects. Further studies are needed optimise treatment strategies

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation in delirium: A double-blind, randomized, sham-controlled, pilot study

Purpose: Delirium is a fatal but potentially reversible disorder of Central Nervous System that adds a lot of costs on health systems. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of intermittent theta burst stimulation on severity and course of delirium. Methods: This was a double-blind, randomized, sham-controlled, pilot study. The participants were randomly allocated into two groups of ...

Repeated Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) on Methamphetamine Craving: a Randomized, Sham-Controlled Study

modulation of dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) activity using non-invasive brain stimulation, such as transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), enhanced the prospects of substance use disorders rehabilitation. Methods: we carried out a randomized sham-controlled clinical trial to assess the effect of repeated tDCS at DLPFC on drug craving in 30 abstinent male methamphetamine users. ...

Effects of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation Block Remifentanil-Induced Hyperalgesia: A Randomized, Double-Blind Clinical Trial

Background: Remifentanil-induced hyperalgesia (r-IH) involves an imbalance in the inhibitory and excitatory systems. As the transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) modulates the thalamocortical synapses in a top-down manner, we hypothesized that the active (a)-t-DCS would be more effective than sham(s)-tDCS to prevent r-IH. We used an experimental paradigm to induce temporal summation of...

Effect of Anodal Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation on Autism: A Randomized Double-Blind Crossover Trial

The aim of this study was to evaluate the Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS), Autism Treatment Evaluation Checklist (ATEC), and Children's Global Assessment Scale (CGAS) after anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) in individuals with autism. Twenty patients with autism received 5 consecutive days of both sham and active tDCS stimulation (1 mA) in a randomized double-blind cros...

W6: Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation Workshop

It is an Intensive 1-day course for introducing utilizing transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) in an applied format. This technique is a noninvasive brain stimulation that uses direct electrical currents over the head to stimulate specific parts of the brain which modulates neuronal activity. It has strong potentiality in the field of medical and neuroscientific research. Anodal stimu...
